June- A review in mobile uploads

June 23, 2010

Sadly I often only have my cellphone on hand to document all we do.  I haven’t been feeling the D80 love all that much… So with that I give you the month in sub par photography, in no particular order:

Gardening with Grandma Donna

May 31, 2010

Hoeing the dirt…

Sowing the potatoes.

 The boys prefer lounging.

Posy Bomey Strikes Again

Boston: Out of the museum

May 29, 2010

Train rides…

Street performers…

Dinner at Cheers…

Another performer…

The suspense, the danger, the excitement… Gabe was on pins and needles for the guy.

And checking out the bit of country in the city…

Skate Park

May 19, 2010

Grandma went to town and bought every grandkid a pair of inline skates.  The house has been a non-stop rink so we tried our wheels at the skate park…

 No carpet, no walls… concentrate!

Done with skates?  Just stand there and look pretty…

Posy Bomey & the New Dress

Hold the door, Caden’s FOUR!

The return of fishing season

May 2, 2010

The girl needs some waders!

 Score!

Wouldn’t be a successful day without a bullfrog capture too!

Stink eye Munch Man is always good for a laugh…

Big Brew 2010

May 1, 2010

While the old folks drank homebrew to their hearts content, the monkeys looked like this most of the day…

An Earth Day hike

April 23, 2010

Trails…

Water… Stone mazes…

Mud…

Wicked cool forts…Backyard composting lesson…Testing out the turning barrel method…

Beats the one we have like this…  pretty though!

A disagreement over rock identification… (Gabe says crystal, I say coal?)  Friends.

Must be Earth Day!  OR,  just about any other day in our lives…  ;)

Lastly, a collage of pics taken just for me.

Kicking it kosher

April 17, 2010

Some coarse salt and liquid watercolors (and REAL watercolor paper)…

makes a mighty fine piece of art…

Even more fine when you’re almost NINE!

Simone was all about the process.

Especially the accidental one!

For those who enjoy it condensed… bringing it to you collage-style.  :)

Massebesic Audubon

April 16, 2010

Hiked the trail at the Audubon today and did the WHOLE loopy thingy.  Simone did it in flip-flops.  (Bad Mommy.)

Our goal was to find the water.  We did.

Amazingly, no bribery was needed to get this.  Just a fib that there was a barfing salamander on my head.  ;)

This was Harper’s first lake trip.  She was impressed. For real.

Lucky for us, a birch tree kept a freaky eye on the kids while we kicked back by the lake’s edge…

It was a beautiful day for a walk.  Gabe, of course, found critters left and right…

The wiggliest salamander you ever saw!

Caden tried his darndest to do the same (to no avail). He lifted rocks left and right for potato bugs to call his own.

Ginormous stumps proved to be a picturesque stop.

Most of the time the monkeys were glued to their Doherty siblings.  The big boys…

The middle girls…

And the wee lads…

The day ended with a much needed picnic back at the Audubon center and a sorting of treasures ceremony amongst the ladies.

Art in April: Part 2- Ansel Adams & Henri Silverman

April 14, 2010

Show & Tell time!  Nature and city photography…

Too freakin’ cute…

Later on, it was wildlife artistry a la John James Audubon.  Simone tackled the drawing portion…

while Gabe concentrated on observation side of things.

Art in April: Part 1- The homework

April 13, 2010

First up the homework!  Of course we waited until the day before it was due… What kind of students would we be if we didn’t procrastinate?  We headed to Main St., Nashua for our “city” photos:

I set the camera to aperture priority (1.8) and changed the focus points to ‘all’ and let ‘em at it.  100+ photos later, these were the cream of the crop.  First up, Gabe.  I love this one…

Found a little country in our city…

My favorite nature pic… Look at that bokeh!

And Simone’s top shots.  The down and dirty city… Bomey’s got some edge!  ;)

Great composition and perspective here!

We stopped by the river on our way home for a little “country”…

Not to be shown up by a couple of monkeys, I couldn’t resist taking some of my own. A little city…

and a little country…

6 short years

April 12, 2010

Happy Birthday to my monkiest of monkeys!

That is, when she’s not holed up in a corner playing her new DS…

Extra, extra!

April 11, 2010

We made the front page of the Union Leader today (3 years after our last appearance)!A12 too…

We kinda like being famous, if only for a day.  ;)

Art in April- Jackson Pollock

April 6, 2010

Who doesn’t want to throw paint around on a balmy Tuesday afternoon?

Splattering away…

Miniature Pollocks…

And even Pollock feet!

We managed to finish just before the rain drops started falling more heavily.

This little beauty is priced at $250.  Any takers?

Afterwards, it was inside for sharing our “homework”; album covers.  Gabe’s was inspired by one of his favorite computer games, “Plants vs. Zombies”.

The captive audience…

And the captive dog…

Newcastle Beach

April 2, 2010

Our first trip of the year!  It was high tide all afternoon and very windy so it wasn’t the sand we played on as much as the grass and path to the beach.

Of course, nothing phases the monkeys.  Fun can be made any and everywhere…

Way cool rocks can always be found…

And babies can always be propped up in guitar cases… ;)

At least the seagulls are always up for a photoshoot…

And the just-starting-to-bud twig thingys in front of the seagulls.

All hail beach days!!
